What is tartar

Tartar is mineralised dental plaque. It is relatively easy to see with the naked eye because the specific yellowish-brownish colour and calcified appearance on the tooth surface is characteristic of tartar.

Since tartar is a hard mass on the surface of the tooth, it is difficult to remove with a toothbrush. It can be removed by a dentist using special instruments and equipment. The procedure usually takes no longer than 45 minutes and to ensure good dental health, it is recommended to get the teeth cleaned of plaque and tartar at least twice a year.
